KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) dismissed an application seeking transfer of the case of the alleged extrajudicial killing of a man by a Ranger’s official to a regular court.

The application was moved by the defence counsel under section 23 (power to transfer cases to regular courts) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, before ATC-I’s Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso who dismissed the plea after hearing arguments from both sides.

The lawyer of the Rangers’ official had challenged the trial of his client under the Anti-Terror Law and had asked that the case be transferred to a regular court in previous hearing.

The Rangers official, Shahzad, has been accused of killing a man, Ghulam Haider, for allegedly not stopping his car when signaled to do so in Shah Faisal Colony on June 6.

The court issued production orders for the suspect for August (today) for his indictment in the case.
