Gilgit-Baltistan’s (G-B) Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) has sacked at least 20 employees over prolonged absence and issued show-cause notices to 40 others for showing laxity in their duties.
“The decision was taken because they (the employees) did not respond to notices served to them,” Gayoor Ahmed, Executive Engineer of Wasa, told reporters on Monday.
According to officials, a team of Wasa engineers led by the executive engineer paid surprise visits to Wasa offices in Gilgit town and found many employees absent. As part of disciplinary action, show-cause notices were issued to those not present in their offices.
However, 20 employees did not respond, as a result of which they were relieved of their duties. “According to our information, those terminated are either working in other departments or are out of the country,” said Ahmed.
