Haddin set a new world record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in a Test series when he caught Joe Root yesterday shortly after play resumed after tea.
England were set a target of 227 to win the fifth Ashes Test in a minimum of 44 overs after Australia declared their second-innings on 111 for six at tea on the final day at The Oval yesterday.
England, who at 3-0 up had already won the series, needed to score their runs at a rate of 5.16 an over if they were to win four Tests in a home Ashes for the first time.
Haddin sets new wicket-keeping record
Australia’s Brad Haddin set a new world record for most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in a Test series when he caught Joe Root yesterday shortly after play resumed after tea.
Root’s exit saw Haddin complete his 29th dismissal of the five-match series, surpassing the mark of 28 set by Australia wicket-keeping great Rodney Marsh, now a selector, against England during the 1982-83 Ashes in Australia.
