Police must register FIR within five minutes of complaint: CCPO

Says hostile attitude towards the public will not be tolerated.

Acting CCPO Mian Muhammad Asif has asked muharars to work in two shifts and register FIRs within five minutes of receiving complaints.

Muharars are police officials who take down details of complaints filed at police stations.

Presiding over a meeting of muharars at the Malik Saad Police Lines on Sunday, the acting CCPO directed officials to treat complainants in a kind and polite manner.

“Action will be taken against those muharars who will not register FIRs and who are hostile or rude towards the public,” he said. “They will work in two shifts to ensure their availability round-the-clock at police stations.”

An FIR should be registered within five minutes of receiving a complaint and a copy of it should be provided to the complainant, Asif added.

Muharars found guilty of corruption will be suspended and action will be taken against them, he reiterated.



Around 60 muharars from 28 police stations participated in the meeting.

Earlier this month, IGP Ihsan Ghani inaugurated the police to victim service that bounds police officials to visit the victim of a crime personally following an incident.

The police will visit the crime scene to collect evidence and register an FIR and inform the operations room of their progress. The FIR will also be available on the police website.



Among initiatives taken by the police is a Police Accountability Commission at the Central Police Office. The commission has been tasked to take action against corrupt police officials in light of intelligence reports and police records.

It is expected to be in place and functional within a month’s time.

Other police reforms include the establishment of women complaint centres across the province.
