KARACHI:

The Private Schools Management Association in Karachi have accused the Board of Secondary Education Karachi of “playing with the future of 130,000 students” by failing to issue marks certificates to around 60 per cent of the schools till Friday.

The association’s chairperson, Sharfuz Zaman, during an emergency press conference on Friday, said that college admissions deadline was on August 26 and nearly half of the issued marks certificates contained errors. Zaman also accused a majority of journalists of maintaining “silence over this issue of vital importance for their personal benefits”.

On the other hand, Centralised Admission Policy chairperson Dr Nasir Ansar, who is also the director of colleges in Karachi, told The Express Tribune that students were not necessarily required to submit their marks sheets with their college admission forms. “The prospective students may attach their matriculation mark sheets or, in case of unavailability, admit cards with the admission forms,” he clarified.

Meanwhile, the accusation received a stern reply from the board’s controller of examinations, Noman Ahsan, who said that the private schools’ association only wanted to “blackmail” the education board after their initial demand to adjust the examination centres “for the use of unfair means” was not met by the board officials.

“Over 90 per cent of the schools in Karachi have received their mark sheets since the result was announced on August 1, and hardly 0.2 per cent of the cases reported error from amongst the 138,000 students who took the exam,” said Ahsan.

When The Express Tribune contacted the head of another major association of private schools to verify the claim, he denied the existence of any such issue. All Private Schools Management Association chairperson, Syed Khalid Shah, said that no school under his association registered any complaint about the non-issuance of students’ marks sheets. “The issue may be raised to pursue some ulterior motives, which I do not know of,” added Shah.
