The explosion took place minutes before a passenger train was to chug out, officials said. The bomb was planted on a motorcycle which was presumably parked on the platform by an employee of Pakistan Railways.
District Police Officer Atif Ikram confirmed the casualties. “The bomb was planted on a motorcycle parked on the railway station platform. It was remotely detonated,” he added. “The Quetta-bound passenger train remained safe.”
According to sources, the platform was heavily damaged and might cave in any time. Security forces closed the Pakistan-Afghan border after the blast.
In other violence, a passerby was killed and two Motorway policemen were wounded in a roadside bomb blast in the Khad Kucha area of Mastung district on Wednesday.
A Balochistan Levies official told The Express Tribune that a Motorway Police patrol was driving past when suspected miscreants remotely triggered the roadside bomb. As a result, two policemen and a passerby were wounded.
The injured were driven to the Civil Hospital Mastung where medics referred the unnamed passerby to Quetta for specialized treatment of his critical wound. He died en route to Quetta.
