KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) once again directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials to ensure the removal of encroachments and obstacles along the Super Highway at Sohrab Goth.

SHC chief justice, Mushir Alam, passed this order while heading a bench during the hearing of a suo motu case against encroachments, on Tuesday. The proceedings are based on a written application submitted by an additional registrar at the SHC’s Hyderabad circuit bench last year.

The registrar had complained that the security of judges was threatened by encroachments and illegal parking along the highway. Alam had converted the application into a constitutional petition on April 14 to initiate proper proceedings and notices were issued to the city government and other functionaries over the matter. On Tuesday, the officials filed a statement, informing the court about the action being taken to remove the encroachments.

The bench directed the KMC to extend all its support to the commissioner for the removal of the encroachments. It also ordered the Police IG and Rangers DG to provide back up support to the commissioner in implementing the court’s orders.
