Khan was on his way home when he was ambushed by heavily armed assailants while slowing down at a speed bump near Jehangira Chowk, SHO Shakil Khan said. The victim was travelling alone at the time of the attack.
As a result of the attack, Khan was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries while on his way to the hospital. The body was taken to the district headquarter hospital for the autopsy.
The incident took place hours before by-elections are held on August 22 in NA-5 Nowshera.
Soon after the incident, government and security officials reached the area and started investigating. An FIR had not been registered till the filing of this report to ascertain the reason behind the murder.
PTI worker shot dead in Karachi
In another incident, Muzaffar Bangash, 21, was killed in Karachi's Pehlwan Goth area on Wednesday evening.
PTI workers claimed that Bangash was part of the party and that he had been registered as the party's polling agent for NA-254, where by-elections are due to be held on Thursday.
Naeem sheikh #PTIcandidate @PTINA254Karachi just informed me that Muzaffar bangash registered as polling agent for by election in NA254
— Arsalan Taj (@ArsalanGhumman) August 21, 2013
However, the police denied that Bangash was associated with the PTI. Instead, Gulistan-e-Johar SHO Raheem Shah said that the victim operated a food stall and that two armed men riding on motorcycles shot him thrice in the chest and once in the head. The wounds caused Bangash to die on the spot.
Bangash's body has been moved to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre.
Condemnation from PTI leadership
In a press release issued late Wednesday night, Imran Khan strongly condemned the attacks on PTI members and instructed his party to remain calm and peaceful.
Extending condolences with family members of the dead, Imran asked the government to ensure security of PTI members and asserted that terrorist activities will not be able to prevent 'change' from happening.
The statement added that the attacks were aimed at degrading the law and order situation and breaking their resolve.
Imran Khan tweeted that he was "shocked and saddened" by the murder of the PTI worker.
Shocked & saddened by target killing of 21 yr old PTI worker Muzaffar Bangash at Pehlwan Goth, Khi.Total collapse of law and order. Shameful

@Mohni: Hah! what a news piece you have for us here. The police having more information about the party worker than the party itself......great joke! made my day :P
@Ch. Allah Daad: Its rather that PTI is maturing. Lets face it PTI can not radically change the system, no one can. Change takes time and PTI will have to understand and accept that it will have to tweak the system with the currently available tools rather than radicalizing it altogether. The only thing it needs not to avoid is to mingle militancy with politics as some of the parties in Karachi.
@Usman Waqar: ".....and we are all in despair" A rather "self created" despair. Rather than making hue and cry, get your heads down and start doing good for the people who have given PTI the mandate. Respect and trust are earned, not given for granted as most of the PTI members think.
PTI quickly negotiate with the TTP for your party's life and security otherwise, ANP and PTI will be look alikes. May your assassinated workers RIP. Ameen. Salams
@np: You're the man. You're the man with steel moral fiber. Good show NP and keep the flag flying high. Have a nice day.
@Saz:
"Wonder why IK forgot to comment on the death in KP"
The tweet ET is showing is before the murder in KP, which happened this morning. Bit of education doesnt hurt my friend
No comment on Nowshehra killing? Total collapse etc etc!!!
@Ch. Allah Daad: haha in your dreams.
@np: Yes! the first thing to strike is Imran Khan condemned the killing of PTI worker in Karachi, who according to the police was not PTI worker, but dared not to say a word about the brutal killing of PTI leader in Nowshera.
May Allah bless his soul (ameen)
Yes very shameful,IK. All those who escaped from DI khan jail are conducting business in Karachi
Sad day for PTI. Its most of the supporters have already said goodbye to the party and those few left are dying with friendly fire.
and what would Imran khan call to killing of his own PTI leader in kpk.....? isn't that also shameful and collapse of law in KPK? perhaps Imran khan sahib is thinking that still ANP is running govt in KPK
I am a Karachiite. I wish PTI was in federal govt, they would have atoppede this violence but instead pmln rigged the elections and put us all in crisis. pmln supporters, please take your Raiwind and move out of Pakistan. You have damaged Pakistan beyond repair....and we are all in despair.
I can't believe that even in the murders of their own PTI members they maybe being selective on their condemnation based on governing location or/and possible religio-ethnicities of the culprits in each case.
tweet only about karachi event, which is contested by police that he was even a member. what about people die in kpk? are they not human? or is that you cannot put blame on MQM there? which one of this...please tweet it!
Can Nawaz Sharif chalk out our security policy??? What Are our Fedral govt is doing on TTP??
Pti, Mqm, Ppp, Aswj , Mwm, Anp, PAC, Krc, Pml f, Pml Q,Jui f, army, police, rangers, media and almost everybody is being targeted except for a major political party. Something smells fishy.
Amazed at the comments above. Like they know who killed these two men. If you do, please name names and motives. Also provide contact information. Thank you.
I am sad on these deaths because i support the same party but what makes me lose hope in pakistan is these "educated " people who read ET and writing sarcastic comments on these deaths. Imran Khan always tried his best that PTI doesnt have its militant group and as a result we are all without arms while our opponents have well-trained/armed criminals.
Yet again Pre-poll rigging against PTI..Haters must b hiding with shame or killing our workers..
Different "groups" killing opponents. This used to happen in Mumbai in the 1990s till the Crime Branch seriously undertook the work of clearing out all underworld gangs that were creating havoc by taking contracts for target killing, demanding extortions from builders, etc. Now it is happening inside Pakistan. Although it is unfortunate wherever this happens, it is more horrifying in the case of Pakistan, because the government agencies there lack willpower. I won't be surprised if political opponents are getting eliminated by some to ensure victory as elections are nearing. People like Dawood Ibrahim would be in demand right now for carrying out such acts.
So does IK still think this is America's war? Was this attack related to the drones, or US forces fighting the taliban in Afghanistan? He couldn't be more wrong. Otherwise why would these terrorists kill a PTI party leader, a party that vehemently opposes America? IK needs to wake up and smell the coffee.
CM Khattak is ready to respect these people, yes?
Inna Lillah-e wa inna ilaihi raaji'un! May their souls rest in peace!
IK needs to stop equivocating on the issue of terrorism and announce support for clear and decisive action, instead of trying to placate blood-thirsty terrorists.
Negotiations underway with the killers. Guess which ethnic group populates nowshera and pehlwan goth
Religious fascists at work in the north, linguistic-political-"secular" fascists at work in the south, victim? --> Pakistan
Imran khan please negotiate with these assailants as well to alleviate their concerns so they don't kill anymore.
