SAN FRANCISCO: This is with reference to the story “Did you know?: Zinda Bhaag wins four awards in Canada” (August 20). The reason why a film like Zinda Bhaag will be a hit at the box office is because the actors in it are fresh and young, the subject is light and fun, the music is catchy, and it has zero trace of the stale, old masala that Lollywood folk spin out. This film was made with little fanfare and if released in India, will rock the cinema houses.
I saw the film with an audience that was amazed at the film’s quality, with many non-Pakistanis being surprised that Pakistan could produce such fare. It is hoped that Zinda Bhaag will make the world stand up and take notice of this new genre of independent film-makers taking charge and distancing themselves from a dying institution like Lollywood.
