Pakistan hockey team claims second win

KARACHI: Pakistan brightened their chances of reaching the hockey semi-final with a 4-1 thrashing of Malaysia as they won their second match.

The Greenshirts, who defeated Scotland 3-0, dominated Malaysia throughout the encounter after Muhammad Imran gave Pakistan the lead in the 17th minute.

Malaysia’s full-back Mohammad Ameen levelled the score three minutes before the interval but Shakeel Abbasi scored in the 38th minute while Rehan Butt extended the lead five minutes later. Waqas Sharif sealed the win in the 65th minute. Pakistan now meet World Champions Australia on Saturday before taking on India the following day.

“Pakistan now have a very good chance of reaching the semi-finals as we need only one win from our remaining two games,” manager Khawaja Junaid told The Express Tribune.
