The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Caretaker Chairman Najam Sethi congratulated the national U19 squad for winning the Tri-Nation Tournament in England.
Inspired by a flamboyant 110 from captain Sami Aslam and a four-wicket haul by Zafar Gohar, the Pakistan U19 team pummelled England U19 by 192 runs in the final on Monday. Bangladesh was the other team in the tournament.
Pakistan scored 343 for six in the allotted 50 overs with Shayan Jahangir (85) and Kamranj Ghulam (61) the other contributors. The winners then bowled out their opponents for just 151 in 33 overs to seal the title.
“I am especially pleased with the consistency and talent of this young lot,” said Sethi in a statement. “Whenever an U19 team or an ‘A’ squad shows such promise, it brings double joy because it reflects that the younger lot are talented enough to be blooded in case there is a need in the senior side.
“The point to note is that the entire team had a good outing. I congratulate the boys on this important win.”
