HYDERABAD: The Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) observed a strike in several parts of Sindh on Friday to protest what they term are ‘extra judicial’ killings of its workers in Karachi and Jamshoro. Some towns in Jamshoro, Dadu, Benazirabad, Tando Muhammad Khan and Hyderabad were shut down. The JSMM workers alleged that Zamin Chandio, Ilahi Bux Chachar and Sunbul Ahmed - who were reportedly killed in police operations in Karachi - were actually ‘staged’ encounters. They further claimed that the police encounter in Kotri, Jamshoro district, in which Afzal Panhwar was killed was also staged. Panhwar, according to the police, was involved in the firing on Bahauddin Zakaria Express in Kotri, which had left a child dead and seven people injured with gunshots. Panhwar was shot later in a police search operation in Jani Shah area in Kotri town.
