KARACHI: Despite inconvenience caused by rain, athletes in Karachi celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm.

The Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) had organised nine events at three different venues. Hyderabad lost both the girls’ and boy’s events to Karachi, but their players showed great sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, they also remained undeterred by the rain even when athlete Ghulam Muhammad of Hyderabad was injured during the semi-final of the Sepak takraw championship held at the mini sports complex in Nazimabad.

Elsewhere, Haidri Club won the volleyball championship trophy, defeating Garden Club 3-1 during the final.

In other events, cyclist Abid Ali won the SOA race and Karachi Police defeated the Karachi Student Club to lift the throwball championship trophy.

Sindh Police also dominated the netball event, defeating Sindh 19-16, whereas Latifabad Town from Hyderabad won the handball championship.
