MULTAN:

A 14-year old girl died after being hit by brick and an 8-year old girl was injured during a clash between some families of the Bhaat clan on Tuesday night.

The girls’ family placed the body near Abbasia Chowk, Ahmadpur East, and blocked traffic for hours.

Shumaila Asghar, 14, was hit on the dead and Komal, 8, was injured during the clash. Their families took them to the tehsil headquarters hospital where Asghar was pronounced dead. The families then staged protest demonstrations at Abbasia Chowk and Munir Shaheed Chowk and closed the market there. They demanded the arrest of the clan members they were fighting with and said that Asghar had died from a deliberate hit.

City Deputy Superintendent Taimoor Aziz tried to placate the protesters but they refused to move till the murderers were arrested. Later City Deputy Superintendent Azizullah Khan and former provincial assembly deputy speaker Mian Usman Abbasi reached the scene and promised a fair investigation. The body was then taken to the THQ Hospital for post mortem. Traffic was restored at Abbasia Chowk but the protesters continued protesting at Munir Shaheed Chowk.
