Hand over government to the Taliban

Letter August 13, 2013
The Taliban have not only established their writ but are now knocking on the gates of major cities.

JUBAIL, SAUDI ARABIA: Today, we are on self-destruction mode, where the murderer of the Punjab governor is garlanded by lawyers, where many among us call Malala Yousufzai a foreign agent, where those who dared to take action against terrorists holed up in Lal Masjid are implicated for murder, where success in proxy wars in neighbouring countries is seen as a foreign policy objective and where in some parts of our country, the Taliban have not only established their writ but are now knocking on the gates of major cities.

Therefore, instead of fighting terror, let’s take a shortcut — not only negotiate with the Taliban to accommodate their designs/views on democracy, judiciary, security and education systems, but as a step forward for permanent peace (generally found in graveyards), just hand over the government in Islamabad and other provincial capitals to the Taliban.
