Shahidullah Shahid said if the government gives a guarantee of putting forward ideal religious and intellectual leaders, the Taliban would be interested in holding talks.
For this purpose the spokesperson recommended the names of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) group Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Syed Munawar Hasan, Jamaat-e-Islami’s fourth elected Ameer.
The spokesperson also demanded for a fatwa to be given against killings of Muslims in Myanmar and Syria.

Two things: Have they never heard of the concept of separation of church and State? And, you do NOT negotiate with sub human terrorist only interested in killing innocent people.

Negotiations is the only means of peaceful settlement of even the hardest issues. TTP, for any reasons, has offered for negotiations with some conditions it should be treated as seriously. Govt should welcome this stance and hope for better.

@Jat, When TTP has sympathizers like IK in Pakistan and political setup like PPP which cannot pass a single law to protect evidence, judges, and make police effective then the end result will be what it is today. With the Pakistan Government building up its pressure,and talks of co-operation with Afghanistan, TTP wants to negotiate now, while continues killing civilians indiscriminately. Pressure should be kept up, and certain demands should be made by the Government before considering negotiations,like having them lay down arms.
I think there is no harm in including the JUI and JI leaders in a negotiating team of several members. The questions that the JUI and JI have to answer before they accept inclusion in the team is, "Can we deliver to the Taliban what we promise them? Will the Pakistani awam agree to what we offer the Taliban on behalf of the awam?" It seems to me that the Taliban do not understand that they have to deal with the leaders we elected and the negotiating team selected by these elected leaders.
The TTP will make unacceptable demands, which will result in failure like the Taliban talks in Doha.

Experience has shown, our politicians are corrupt and inept, our intelligence is not up to the task, our police is addicted to bribery and corruption, the rangers are doing the job best they can, but the terrorists they arrest are freed by the courts out of fear. Imran must be so disappointed. Not only they did not name him but they named his direct competitor in KPK I.e Fazlu. This despite he being the one shouting himself hoarse that one should negotiate with TTP since 5 years and his ministers never naming TTP as perpetrators of attack even where TTP has claimed responsibility and his senior minister even going to the extent of saying that they would be willing to shut down e distinguish co-Ed schools in KPK if TTP so desired and his CM saying that they will give due respect to TTP.
Would he now be able to support the talks on the terms demanded by TTP where IF the talks succeed Fazlu gets credit. IF talks do not succeed and the mayhem continues then of course his government in KPK too will be under fire no matter how much he tries o delect the blame to the center. It would be interesting to watch.

Talks can only be held from a position of strength, not weakness. Our leaders are incompetent, corrupt and indolent. The TTP knows this, they also know that we have no strategy to deal with this or any other insurgency. That is why they feel strong and are able to dictate, while our leaders go around chasing their tails, and making empty threats. Unfortunately the end is near and we have failed as a civilized nation. May God have mercy on us.

Though one should never shy away from talking peace, one should also not engage in a futile exercise. Talking to these regressive forces of ignorance is just another name of wasting time. The Pakistan army which is solely responsible for the creation of these Talibans should take it upon themselves to eradicate them. That the Pakistani establishment will have to do this one day is a given; it's just that the powers to be may not realize it yet. If you need someone to tell you that you cannot reason with those who do not know what reason is you will take a little more time to realize this reality.

Fazlur Rehman is more interested in power than anything else. Munawar Hassan is without brain. He wouldn't condemn shooting children like Malala. What to expect from these so called religious leaders cum politicians. Today we are suffering because of soft corner these so called religious leaders have for these criminals. No one talk about their atrocities and all the innocent men, women and children getting killed by these savages.
In their "religion" it is ok to blow up schools and hospitals whereas Islam prohibits even cutting a tree unnecessarily. I don't need any approval of my religion from these savages, nor from their religious scholars or supporters.
And I wonder what sort of negotiations there will be? Like Pakistan did in Swat where all TTP wanted was to gain time to regroup themselves. We just can't accept state within a state. Either you live under laws of Pakistan or be eradicated.
