PM’s advice: Zardari grants special remission

Special remission of one year has been allowed to female prisoners who have accompanying children.

President Zardari, on the PM’s advice, has granted special remission in sentences to convicts of different categories on Eid.


A special remission of 90 days has been granted to prisoners convicted for life imprisonment, except those convicted for crimes like murder, espionage and anti-state activities, sectarianism, among others.

President also granted special remission for 45 days to all other convicts, except those sentenced to death, convicted of murder, espionage, etc and those serving sentences under the Foreigners Act 1946.

The remissions will be admissible provided the convicts have undergone two-thirds of their substantive sentence.

Total remission has been granted to male prisoners aged 65 and above and female prisoners aged 60 and above who have undergone at least one-third of their substantive sentence of imprisonment, except those involved in culpable homicide and terrorist acts.

Special remission of one year has been allowed to female prisoners who have accompanying children and are serving a sentence of imprisonment for crimes other than culpable homicide and terrorism.

Total remission has also been allowed to juvenile convicts who have served one-third of their substantive sentence.
