FAISALABAD: A baby kidnapped from Faisalabad divisional headquarters hospital a week ago has been recovered from Islamabad on Wednesday. The police have also arrested The woman accused of kidnapping the newborn for adoption.

SHO Masood Nazeer said, “The kidnapper was traced through her thumb impression when she went to National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) office to request a Form B for the child.”

Nazeer said Basharat Ali, resident of Chak 258-GB, had taken his wife to the hospital on August 1 for delivery. She had given birth to a boy.

“Shamim Bibi told the hospital staff that she was the baby’s aunt.

The hospital administration handed over the baby to her after she gave her thumb impression in the hospital register.”

When Ali discovered that the baby was missing, he and several relatives staged a protest demonstration in front of the hospital.”

Nazeer said the police sent the thumb impression of the kidnapper to the NADRA. They found that the thumb impression matched Nasreen Bibi, wife of Abdur Razzaq, who came to a NADRA office to request a Form B for her child.

The police traced the woman to Islamabad and arrested her. They said she has confessed to having kidnapped the baby.

The SHO said she had been handed over to the CIA police for further investigations.
