Pre-election blast: Bail granted to suspect in attack on PTI candidate

The bail was granted to the accused on the condition of producing two surety bonds and Rs200,000.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday granted bail to a suspect in the May 8 attack on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate’s office in the run-up to the general elections.

A single-member bench comprising PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan granted bail to Matiullah Khan, who is suspected to be behind the blast.

Matiullah’s lawyer Farhana Marwat told the court PTI candidate Jehanzeb Khan’s office on Bakhsho Pul was blown up using bombs on May 8 this year.

“When the police arrived on the spot they found another bomb. This was planted near the office of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Arbab Akbar Hayat Khan. The police arrested my client Matiullah for being involved in the case,” Farhana told the court.

She explained the bail application was rejected in a lower court so they filed another application at the PHC. After hearing the case, the court granted bail to the accused on condition of producing two surety bonds and Rs200,000.
