PESHAWAR:
Troops of the Pakistan Army have been deployed at the Peshawar Central Jail as part of security measures, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Peshawar Central Jail is considered one of high priority since Dr Shakeel Afridi along with other Taliban militants are jailed there.

Jail authorities are asked to stay on alert for the next 24 hours.

While the army troops will be on duty, senior officers will be supervising the security of the jail.

More troops are expected to be deployed at all sensitive prisons, such as Bannu Jail, DI Khan Jail, and Hairupur Jail.

Security forces, along with the police, set up check posts at seven entry and exit points in Dera Ismail Khan on August 2. These measures were taken to ramp up security after the July 29 jailbreak, in which 250 prisoners, including 49 militants, were freed.

The seven check posts were set up under the provincial government’s instructions in order to tighten the law and order situation in Dera Ismail Khan.
