LAHORE:
A joint interrogation team consisting of officials from the police and Rangers carried out an operation at the Koth Lakhpat jail in Lahore on Monday night, Express News reported.

The search operation came in light of the recent attack in the central jail in Dera Ismail Khan, in which almost 250 prisoners managed to escape.

Initial investigations had suggested that prisoners in the DI Khan jail possessed cell phones through which they had maintained contact with the terrorists.

According to officials, information of a terrorist attack on the jail had been received. Barracks of prisoners were searched in the operation.

Earlier on Saturday, security at the Hyderabad Central Jail, a site of frequent jail riots, was beefed.

On Sunday, the central jail in Karachi, where Rangers had carried out an eight-hour intensive search in late June, a security exercise was carried out.
