ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has delivered a list of seven legislators to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after their educational credentials were found valid. The number of genuine degree-holders is now 545.

The MPs cleared are Senator Abdul Ghaffar Qureshi, federal sports and culture minister Pir Aftab Shah Jilani, MNA Dr Aresh Kumar and MPAs Aisha Khoso, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Nuzhat Pathan and Mir Hassan Khan Talpur.

Meanwhile, the ECP continued hearing cases of fake degrees on Monday.

A final notice was issued to MNA Nasir Ali Shah, who once again failed to turn up, summoning him on October 11. The commission decided that if Shah did not appear for the next hearing, it will be assumed that he had nothing to say in his defence and his case would be referred to the chief election commissioner for further action.

The ECP also asked Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Kishwar Khan to submit attested copies of his matriculation and intermediate certificates on October 11. The commission also warned him that his case will be finalised in the next hearing and he will be given no more adjournments as his case had been pending since long.

Punjab Assembly’s member Samina Khawar Hayat’s case was adjourned till October 18, after her counsel Amir Saeed Rana requested for relevant documents and sought adjournment.

Federal tourism minister Maulana Attaur Rehman appeared on behalf of Haji Roziuddin (NA-262) and pleaded that Roziuddin’s case had already been decided by the election tribunal and the Supreme Court. The committee advised him to produce copies of the judgments but did not fix a date for the next hearing.
