Federal minister for railways has constituted a four-member committee to probe irregularities in billboard’s revenue and poor performance of the Real Estate Development and Marketing Company, and submit a report in 30 days.
Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq constituted the committee while chairing a high level meeting to review the performance and revenue income of the company on Thursday.
The committee consists of four senior officials of the ministry including chief financial adviser accounts, chief marketing manager, director general operations and director vigilance. The committee was directed to submit its recommendations within 30 days. The committee was asked to securitize all the agreements inked by company with various companies for advertisement.
The minister further directed senior members from the ministry to send proposals on how to increase the revenue from advertisement while increasing the designated places reserved for the advertisement.

I am extremely impressed with the way Mr. Rafique is running this troubled ministry. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding his election victory but there is no doubt he is working day and night to try to bring the glory back to Pakistan Railways. He has cut fares, gotten more trains started up, reduced delays within just a few weeks of his term. Bilour did a lot of damage to the railways by hiking up prices so that his Daewoo bus service would become the prime choice of travelers in Pakistan. However, the railways can provide cheap transport to the middle and lower class people which private bus companies just won't. Ideally I would have wanted PR to become privatized (since sooner or later we'll see another PPP govt who will hire every Sindhi to work for PR) but if Mr. Rafique can end corruption and depoliticize this key state-owned enterprise, I will change my domicile and vote for him every time around.
People might say these are non-issues but the Railways are the only means of travel for most of our population who cannot afford to pay tens of thousands of rupees to travel to and from their places of work on a regular basis.
