Levelling criticism: K-P government rejects increase in power tariff

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Thursday rejected an increase in the power tariff announced by the federal government, terming it unjustified.

On Wednesday, the Council of Common Interests (CCI), while approving the national power policy for the next five years, proposed an increase in power tariff which was later announced by the water and power minister.

Talking to the media at the Peshawar Press Club, K-P government’s spokesperson Shaukat Ali Yousufzai said the provincial government “completely rejected” the increase. “Instead of increasing power production, the federal government is increasing electricity prices.”

Streamlining

To run managerial matters more effectively, the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) issued transfer and posting orders for certain officials on Thursday.



Habib-Ur-Rehman has been posted as deputy manager GC division in Peshawar and will also continue to work as a staff officer for the Pesco chief executive, according to a notification issued by the company. Samina Mustajab Zaidi has been posted as deputy manager performance management unit, it added.

Muhammad Akbar Jan has been posted as deputy director technical at Khyber Circle Peshawar. Shahid Khan has been posted as deputy manager of tariff at Pesco headquarters. Fayaz-Ur-Rehman has been posted as sub-division officer in Takht Bhai. Ufaid-Ur-Rehman has been posted as revenue officer in the Peshawar city division. Finally, Azmatullah has been posted as revenue officer at Pesco’s Buner division.

According to the statement, Pesco’s chief executive directed the concerned officers to work with more dedication and discharge their duties properly so that consumers’ problems could be promptly addressed.
