High-level huddle: Peshawar commissioner convenes meeting on security apparatus
Issues orders to enhance coordination between law enforcement agencies.
PESHAWAR:
A high-level meeting chaired by Peshawar Commissioner Sahibzada Muhammad Anis was held at the Commissioner House on Tuesday to discuss measures to further strengthen security in the division.
According to a statement issued by the commissioner’s office, it was decided in the meeting that due to the deteriorating law and order, security provisions for the provincial capital would be beefed up while police and security forces would carry out targeted operations against militants.
Along with reviewing the prevailing law and order situation in the division, participants of the meeting discussed the increasing number of kidnapping for ransom and target killing incidents. Commissioner Anis was also presented detailed progress reports by concerned
police officials.
The commissioner then issued orders to further enhance coordination between law enforcement agencies and stressed all available resources should be utilised to improve the division’s security provisions.
Capital City Police Officer Liaqat Ali Khan, Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Syed Zaheerul Islam, Charsadda Deputy Commissioner Tahir Zafar Abbasi, Khyber Agency Polical Agent (PA) Mutahir Zaib, Mohmand Agency PA Khushal Khan along with intelligence agencies’ personnel attended
the meeting.
In the past few weeks, there has been a sharp increase in attacks on policemen and other law enforcement personnel in Peshawar, compelling the department to take action. Moreover, local media has consistently published reports of traders being harassed and asked for extortion money.
In the beginning of July, police launched a massive operation against non-registered motorcycles and vehicles having tinted windows in an attempt to curb terrorism incidents.
