PESHAWAR:

Within a day of campaigning in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) presidential-elect Wajihuddin Ahmad has partly succeeded in gaining support of the K-P coalition government.

On Monday, the senior provincial leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan both vowed to support the PTI candidate for the election.

Earlier, the PTI’s presidential-elect visited the JI K-P Secretariat and held a meeting with the JI’s provincial leadership requesting their support.

Following the meeting, the JI Provincial Ameer Sirajul Haq told journalists, “After a long discussion and consultations with the party leadership, we have decided to support PTI’s candidate in the run for presidential election.”

While Pakistan Peoples Party and the Awami National Party have boycotted the elections, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has chosen Mamnoon Hussain as its presidential candidate.
