The 33 year old batsman hit his first six in 1996 against Sri Lanka in Nairobi. He has hit the most sixes to Indian and Sri Lankan bowlers during his career, having delivered 71 sixes to each side.
Throughout his career, Afridi has hit a total of 52 sixes in 27 tests, 314 sixes in 359 one day Internationals and 34 sixes in 60 Twenty20 internationals.
While Afridi became the only batsman to score the highest number of sixes in cricket, he also equaled Australia’s Shane Watson’s record of garnering the highest number of man of the match awards in Twenty20s, after he was crowned the man of the match in Pakistan’s win against the West Indies on Saturday.

Afridi- He either makes sixes or misses the ball and makes zero, rarely anything in between!
Sir Don Bradman hit only six sixes in his entire Test career, five against England and one against India. Afridi is not greater than Sir Don Bradman.
@jj: For a six to happen the ball has to sail over the boundry line. The sad part is that this is coming from an Indian and in India I guess there has never been cheats and no one has ever fixed matches. The whole freaking IPL is FIXED!
The question is: If Afridi didn't look the way he looks, would be still be this popular?
His Batting, less the said the better. His Bowling was ordinary for most part of his career.
I think only because of his looks, which has made an entire nation go gaga, he has retained his place in the team.
There have been far more explosive, match-winning batsmen, like Sehwag (2 triple and multiple double hundreds in Tests. Not to forget his double in ODIs.) and Gilchrist. Afridis slam-bang, hit couple of sixes, get out before scoring 20 style, would have made most Cricket boards not opt for him.
But, in Pakistan, he is a "legend". A major part of it has to do with his looks, because his numbers are simply too ordinary. In a way you could say most Pakistani Afridi fans are have in effect a teenager girl type crush on their hero. That includes the men. Especially the men.
@Qureshi: I replied to ur question but ET did not publish it.....as expected....and i did not say anything derogratory....
@True Indian: What do you say about Sachin of yours?????
Don't forget he also holds the world record for maximum failures in a career. See how many matches he played for Pakistan and how many times he has failed.
@True Indian: He is not batsman, look at his wickets too. what you expect more from an alrounder?? criticism is always there for a man who stood up.
@True Indian: sachin made 100 centuries .. how many times india won those matches ??? afridi got highest number of man of the matches ... it shows afridi is a match winner .
@Ch. Allah Daad: Correction: Total matches played: 447. Average 0.89 sixes per match
Total matches played 355. Average 1.17 sixes per match.
Shameless cricketer ever to hit the cricketing scene

No doubt Afridi Has become The first player ever in the history of cricket who has scored 400 sixes. At the same time he is also become a record player who has played most matches in his Long 17 years career despite his bad performance. Afridi has given the chance every time after a continuous bad performance in past. As no other world class player holds a record to play continuously with being dropped. So Afridi has privilege over others.
Still i love Afridi. but please consider the facts also
Mubarak Ho! Congratulations! Shabash! (Since, the ICC does not have anything better to do, they might find fault with 400 sixers). Salams
Sixes dont win matches. But we'll take what we can get!
Afridi fans can almost always see him on the screen, atleast between the overs - during the commercial break!
@True Indian: by your comment you have made sachin a real dwarf against bradman's 29 centuries off only 58 tests...with an average of 99.9 runs.as for winning matches for the country ..sachin'contribution is almost nil....you have to search record books to trace such rare event.so my dear dont make foolish comments in misguided nationalism. ..and appreciate others achievements also.Sour grapes tendency is for idiots.
@ankit69: But "UNFORTUNATELY" they never reach the mark of our BOOOOOM BOOOOM.
Cricket without Afridi is like tea with out sugar.. well done Lala,, keep hitting those balls over the fence, also very pleased with Umar Akmals performance and glad to see the back of Kamran shaky hands Akmal.
@ankit69: But the first one is still a Pakistani! In your face may be? :p
ankit69 - No, look who is on the top.....don't show your inferiority complex here
there is 3 indians in that list india rules
boom-boom fixing does not make any sense.
@Caresless Whispers: what Bhatt saying is 250 number of sixes were fixed.so 150 are the actual sixes.
No doubt ,an outstanding cricketer,If he had more patience,he could have been even greater
@True Indian: Highest number of man of the match Thats his achievment in T20
@RAW is WAR: ask Srisanth :D
Masha'Allah. May Allah give you more and may you be thankful to your Lord. Ameen.
Congrat
How many years he has been playing ???? How many centuries ????? How many innings helped Pak win match or could even be considered a significant contribution to the team total ????
And so the world is surprised as to how Pak can carry the burden for so long ?????
And they said he had no place in the team. Pity the "they".
BOOM BOOM AFRIDI, no doubt is the best cricket entertainer of all time
