HARIPUR: Following the provincial government’s directive, the district administration of Haripur is all set to launch an anti-encroachment drive in the city within a couple of days, officials said on Friday. In the first phase, the administration would clear the GT road from Panian Chowk to Tank Chowk, and the line of encroachments has been demarcated following a meeting with the Frontier Highway Authority (FHA), said officials privy to the matter. According to one source, the FHA authorities have identified the land encroached upon by concrete or temporary structures on GT Road. Another official requesting anonymity claimed besides private entrepreneurs, municipal authorities have also encroached upon some land, causing further congestion on the GT Road, which is a crucial thoroughfare leading up to Gilgit-Baltistan and China’s borders. Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Zeb Khan, who is the head of the anti-encroachment drive, said those guilty are being served notices for removal within the next 15 days.
