PESHAWAR:
In a bid to safeguard Peshawar from increasing militant attacks, the security forces launched an operation late on July 19.

Dubbed Khyber II, security forces targeted the area between the mountainous region of the semi-autonomous Frontier Region (FR) Kohat and the Khyber Tribal agency.

Officials sources told The Express Tribune that during the operation, four security personnel were killed. At least fifteen militants were also killed in the operation so far.

“The operation was launched against a nexus of  militants and criminals that had been residing in the area of Zao Kharmatang,” said the official, adding that the security forces were clearing the areas of Sur Ghar and Sher Garh at the moment while they had successfully demolished two hideouts of the militants.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly noted in the headline that 13 militants had been killed. The error is regretted.
