FAISALABAD:

At least 55 employees of the regional tax office on Friday observed a pens down strike in protest against the tax deputy commissioner.

They did not work for four hours, from 8am to 12 noon, and demanded immediate action against Deputy Commissioner Bilal Ahmad, whom they said was rude and disrespectful.

Federal Revenue Alliance Employees Union President Abdul Qayyum said, “If the administration does not take any action against the deputy commissioner’s attitude, workers throughout the country will go on strike.”

The city chief commissioner has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

When contacted, Ahmad said, “I have not misbehaved with any employee of the tax office. In fact, I initiated a departmental inquiry against one of the workers over his misconduct. They are protesting because they want me to stop the inquiry.”
