HEC clears degrees of another 150 MPs
HEC officials say verification of more than half of the MPs has been completed with this list’s compilation.

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a fresh list of MPs, numbering 150, whose degrees have been verified by the Election Commission. The verification of more than half of the MPs has been completed with the list’s compilation, said HEC officials.
The new list declared as bona fide the educational credentials of Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Health Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, Minister of State for Interior Tasnim Ahmad Qureshi, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, son of Punjab chief minister, and Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali, the head of the National Assembly’s standing committee on education.
Of the 1,164 sitting members of the upper and lower house of parliament and the four provincial assemblies, the commission has checked the degrees of 596 deputies. Of these, 538 have been declared valid by the commission. Fifty-eight of them were found to be invalid or bogus while cases of another 18 members are sub judice.
The new list contains the names of two senators, 49 members of the National Assembly, 76 members of the Punjab Assembly, 16 members of the Sindh Assembly and seven members of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Secretary General Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Senator Jehangir Badar and Naib Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan have also been cleared.
Prominent among the list of MNAs whose degrees were declared genuine include Hanif Abbasi, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Anoosha Rehman and Chaudhry Barjees Tahir, (PML-N), Hamid Yar Hiraj, Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Akram Masih Gill (PML-Q), Jehangir Khan Tarin (PML-F), Justice (retd) Fakhar un Nisa, Shagufta Jumani and Belum Hasnain of ruling PPP.
