Gas pipeline: Members see progress on project

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources attended the meeting as head of the Pakistan delegation.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkmenistan have expressed satisfaction over progress on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and reaffirmed their commitment for its timely completion. Both countries met at a meeting of the steering committee of the TAPI, which was held recently at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, along with delegations from the other two countries, says a press release issued here on Thursday. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan attended the meeting as head of the Pakistan delegation. Both the sides discussed a number of issues related to the enhancement of bilateral relations with special focus on the implementation of TAPI gas Pipelines Project. They expressed satisfaction on the current state of the project and hoped that its implementation will help Pakistan and other buyers in meeting their energy requirements and will lead to the economic development of the region.

That project has yet to come into existence where as Iran gas pipe line is already completed up to the Pakistan's border. I don't think this government in Pakistan is serious about alleviating shortage of gas in Pakistan. Some people has made millions by bringing in temporary power plants and now we know the real story/ Why are we talking about this project when Iran gas project is so much feasible and Iran is our neighbor. Does any one really thinks that Afghanistan will be a stable country in one decade, you have not seen the carnage yet, wait till the Americans leave and then North and the South is going to battle it out to control Kabul while the common people will suffer on both side of the border. I wish once their in life time these politicians level with the people of Pakistan and keep the interest of the country first instead of milking the country even further for their personal benefits.
