The accused who was booked for killing the unarmed taxi driver on July 16, was arrested and brought to a Karachi court on Thursday.
Taxi driver Murad Ali was driving his son Zohaib to a doctor near their home in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, before stopping to buy fruit for Iftar when he was shot dead by Ghulam Rasul, the Rangers soldier responsible for the incident.
The driver was shot four times in the chest. Murad’s son was unharmed but he was unable to speak after witnessing the whole shocking episode.
Earlier during the day, the court awarded four-day physical remand of the Rangers officer and asked police to investigate him and submit a report during the next hearing.
Police also recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
A total of four Rangers personnel were booked in the case, however, the police have only arrested the key accused while the other three are on the run.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 22.

ranger soldier isn't responsible for taxi driver soldier intention was to serve the nation suppose taxi driver was a criminal then soldier will accountable for that tragedy.
The CJ takes notice ... Quite funny .....and he is sleeping while Nawaz becomes pm for the 3rd time? Imran contests polls against article 62/63? Zaradri flies for good?
HE NEVER ACTS ON ISSUES OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE
Mr. CJ, you do not address the root cause of issue. You were witness to mass rigging in the previous election but there you kept quiet. Actions like that are not the solutions to the problem. Anyway, Keep it up to stay alive in media.
This shows the low moral and poor training of rangers. They could have shot at the tyres, or they can shoot at the legs if one is running. These trigger-happy rangers just love to kill for the fun of it. The DG rangers should be directly responsible for the poor performance of its troops.
can someone explain what "physical remand" means?
The Ranger has no business to shot to kill, if the taxi driver did not stop on his signal, the soldiers are trained, if not traían him to shoot at the tires to stop him....not kill him through his chist...it is barbaric....these rangers have till today not able to kill one terrorist who shoots at others in their presence.....and run away.....
I think the actual entity responsible is the Office/Department/System which let such ill-trained and delusional judges of crime walk the streets with weapons and bully power against the civilians.
I would like to blame the people responsible for ignoring "Quality Assurance" when it comes to training law enforcers. ( and this still has nothing directly to do with salaries , or resources or economy)
@Lyarite: Sometime Media declare anyone as Innocent and media has the power to arm or unarm anyone.
You are so smart. Rangers killed him for kidnapping a child. May be this guy kidnapped his own son. If some one has committed a crime, person should be arrested and tried in court.
Many comments above suggest that since there are many law breakers and bandits roaming around the city, the Ranger was justified in shooting down Murad Ali and his son Zohaib, and consequently should not be held accountable for his trigger-happy murder. One comment, while condemning the killing says that: "But he should have stopped and the ranger could have noticed the presence of kid." These comments depict the confusion pervasive in Pakistani society in general. Fact is that it is a rarity that law enforcement personnel's bullets target and kill bandits and terrorists. At the first sign of the presence of troublemakers the Police run for their own life. The fact also is that Murad Ali, according to news accounts, stopped and was backing up to get close to the Rangers. Checkpoints are almost always manned by Police looking for bribes on frivolous excuses of some minor vehicular violations. Law abiding citizens are reluctant to stop when they are motioned to, precisely because we all know that it is only intended for harassment. This is specially the case at late hours in night. A society that kills their innocent citizens and protect the killers is just doomed for destruction. Ghulam Rasul, the Ranger, should be awarded capital punishment or life imprisonment so another Murad Ali and another Zohaib will get to live in Pakistan.
I think the initial statement of Rangers doesn't fit the situation. There was no blood in the taxi and the front screen of the taxi was broken with the bullets, how could it be a situation where they tried to stop him and then... Secondly why didn't the kid get injured when he was sitting with his father?
@Lyarite: So you mean to say that if a dumb ranger personnel thinks that a passerby is a criminal then he should shoot him down on the spot! Remember that Sarfraz murder case. Also, do you think that DG Rangers could not investigate that before handing those free shooters to the Police? Come on!
In trigger free and triggr happy society you can expect any thing. His wife who became from BEEVI TO BEWAH was crying like any thing. Unless culpirts will get examplary punishments crimes of such nature will never stop.
@Lyarite: Agreed...We people look one side of picture and decide. Forces are for our safety & security they have no personal issue with citizens.
This deplorable act should be condemned in the hardest words, but the Rangers have their side of story, which says that the taxi did not stop at their check point and sped away on their signal to stop for routine check. Media usually creates hype by publishing one sided story, which seems to be the case here.
feel sorry for poor taxi driver. But he should have stopped and the ranger could have noticed the presence of kid. Previously a couple was fired upon. they and all others want to avoid interrogation by police/ranger but its risky in Karachi city. Now do not punish this ranger guy, otherwise this will discourage others to take any action when a real terrorist is there. I know a friend who fired at robbers who were stealing next door. The robber was killed. But his family filed case to acclaim that he was passing by. the one who was being robbed said I am not involved in this case. Finally my friend has to bribe DSP 150,000 so that he has press the breaved family to take some compensation from my friend alone.
why isnt each an ever death in the city taken this seriously....if every person who is killed by the so called na maloom afraad is given the limelight like this one...hopefully hopefully someday someone will actually get justice
They shot dead a Taxi driver but their bullets can't find the target when it is a terrorist.
