Belaey feels that the sport can flourish in Pakistan since the country has the basic infrastructure necessary for the discipline and all an athlete needs is a bike for this sport.
“The reason for my visit is to promote the sport and also entertain people,” Belaey told The Express Tribune. “It’s a new sport and I understand that people here don’t really know about it and I just want to promote it so that more athletes can join this community.”
Balaey began his career 18 years ago and now after winning six World Cups and four elite world championships he feels that the sport should transcend from Europe and Asian athletes should break into the international trail-biking circuit.
“Now I think it is time that Asians should start participating in the sport too and people from India and Pakistan can also be a part of this sport.” According to him, the best way to spread the sport in Pakistan is to go to schools and find sponsors who can provide bicycles and guarantee regular events.
Belaey added that if Pakistan has a cycling federation, it will be easy to support the introduction of this new sport and felt that all he had to do was introduce the rules of trial biking, which his tour should effectively achieve in the upcoming days, in order give a kick start to the sport.
