PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government received its first direct consignment of vaccines from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) on Monday.

In light of the 18th Amendment, the K-P government is now in charge of the Supply Chain Management of its Expanded Programme for Immunisation (EPI). All vaccines are procured through the Unicef from World Health Organization pre-qualified manufacturers.

Further consignments will arrive throughout the month of July to ensure the next four months’ requirement of vaccines such as BCG, measles vaccines, tetanus and oral polio vaccines is met.

The vaccines will be delivered to the provincial EPI store from where they will be supplied to divisional cold storage rooms in Kohat, DI Khan, Bannu, Mardan, Malakand and Mansehra. From the divisional cold rooms the vaccines will be distributed to various districts to be used by the EPI teams.
