Selectors Saleem Jaffar, Farukh Zaman and Azhar Khan will remain in their positions as before and will aid the chief selector in making decisions.
"Moin met with the PCB acting chairman Najam Sethi today and discussed in detail the role of the electors and his vision for the future," a board spokesperson told media.
"It is an honor and a privilege to be offered the position of Chairman of National Selection Committee – a position held by many greats in the past and most recently by legendary Iqbal Qasim," Moin said after getting the post.
Qasim had resigned from his post after Pakistan lost all three of their group matches at last month's Champions Trophy.
Qasim cited personal and health reasons for his decision to step down but was known to be unhappy with interference from the team management in selection affairs.
"I have accepted this as a challenge and I am glad that PCB and my own vision corresponds in terms of reparing a pool of talented cricketers who can mount an effective challenge in the 2015 World Cup," Moin said.
Earlier, Khan demanded the sacking of national coach Dav Whatmore following the team’s 3-0 whitewash by South Africa on February 28, saying a local man should replace him.
Khan also criticised Test and one-day captain Misbahul Haq.
“Both coach and captain are fighting for survival. They should have a plan and a vision with which they should leave the team on a firm footing but I can’t see any plan. Instead, they keep their interests before the team,” he said.

Good decision. Absolutely love the guy especially when he played mind games with batsmen with his comments and chit chat.
A good decision maybe, he might prove to be a good selector for our team. As we have seen in the past, bad selection has resulted in big defeats many times.. most recently in ICC champions trophy 2013.
@AW: its already called the Punjab Cricket Board (PCB)
Although not too confident in Moin ability, as he was not amongst the brightest cricketing minds of his time ,while being known as hard headed guy, with a dictator like attitude, seeking for revenge (one thing for certain is that Kamran Akmal's career is done :-) ). It will be a tough survial for him, in political dominated cricket board, Especially, being a Karachiite. One thing I'm hopeful for is that perhaps we will see a better Wicket Keeper Come Up the Ranks. Coming, from his Academy background, I do expect him to boost up selection from Academies, as long as its consistent and fair amongst all. Let see how he copes, and most importantly how others cope with him. My predictions, he's only here for a short while.
As the article mentions; he has spoken against the selection and the team set up in the past. I am curious to see what changes he plans to implement. He was known as a fighter during his playing days. I really hope he will select players with the same mentality.
Ali Khan
Guess the next COO of PCB is Yahya Hussaini.... PCB name will be changed to PGCB, Pakistan Geo Cricket Board
Careful what you wish for.
He thought he had some magic wand.
Let him see the mirror now ...
everyone praising here would be cursing in a few months!!
Good move. But I hope this doesn't fuel more Karachi vs Lahore selection arguments.
Finally someone could see through the crap. I have been a believer that responsibility lies with Misbah. His run scoring count for nothing. He achieve on the cost of everyone else. Same very players are affected by his leadership. They could not play their natural game.
seems better than the current lot
Thanks, some aggressive ,cricket brain, coming in selection
Very good news indeed!
I wish and hope that he do justice with his selection!
This really is a good decision by PCB after a long long time
Good move.
