PESHAWAR: A former assistant director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was shot dead on Friday evening, in the second such incident this week.

Arif Khan was standing outside his house in Shahwali Qatal, inside the walled city, when unidentified attackers opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. Arif was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where doctors pronounced him dead. He had served in the IB, from where he had retired.

“The attackers managed to escape,” said an official of the Khan Raziq police station. He added retired government employees were being shot dead by terrorists to create panic among residents.

Earlier this week, Mujahid Khan, a resident of Sheikhabad, was killed in a similar manner in the jurisdiction of Gulbahar police station. Mujahid too, was a former assistant director of the Intelligence Bureau.
