KARACHI: All four Pakistan cueists were off to a winning start at the IBSF World U21 Snooker Championship in China, with Humza Akbar registering the highest break of 125 so far to cap a good day for the country.

Brimming with confidence after a good show at the Asian Team event earlier, Humza thrashed his Mongolian opponent, winning with frame scores of 74-28, 71-07, 125 (125)-0, 76-1. However, he missed the chance of a coveted 147 in the final frame.

Meanwhile, Asian U21 runner-up Mohammad Majid clawed back his way into the match after losing the opening frame. After New Zealand’s Mikey Stewart took the opener, Majid displayed excellent skills to take the following four to eventually win with scores of 38-53, 78-07, 76-34, 71-27, 144 (98)-0.

Pakistan’s third cueist Amir Tariq defeated Sam Bond 4-1 with scores of 70-28, 47-64, 68-58, 73-33, 78-27, while Mohsin Amin downed Finland’s Jesse Huttunen 52-21, 68-08, 83-14 and 70-51.
