Virtual policing

TORONTO: This is with reference to the story “Virtual policing: Typing out your own FIR ... online” (July 11). The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police have launched this online system of filing FIRs on an experimental basis. The system, right now, is in what we can say a ‘beta testing’ phase. Such systems can only be effective when there are cyber crime laws that are strictly enforced and an intelligent cyber crime tracking team. It is important to come up with a foolproof system, which can identify those who lodge false complaints. Perhaps, every person with internet access should be registered by obtaining proper information from their internet service providers.

First, we have to fix our infrastructure. Then only will such initiatives prove to be helpful and effective. Otherwise, out of the thousands of complaints that will be filed on this online system, only a handful will be prove to be genuine ones.
