CJ takes suo moto notice of police manhandling of lawyers while LHC sessions judges continue strike.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary has taken suo moto notice of the police manhandling of lawyers in Lahore.

Aiwan-e-Adl became a battlefield on Friday when police resorted to baton-charge and teargas shelling to disperse angry members of the Lahore Bar Association.

The lawyers were trying to stage a rally to protest the arrest of their leaders and demand sessions judge’s transfer. Several lawyers were injured and dozens arrested and taken to different police stations.

The hearing of the case will take place on Monday.

IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar along with the Attorney General and Advocate General of Punjab have been summoned for the hearing.

Twenty five judges of the session courts in Multan submitted their resignations in protest against lawyers attacking the court room of the Lahore High Court Chief Justice.

Speaking to Express News, the concerned judges condemned the attack and said they would not tolerate actions that were against the sovereignty of the judiciary.

LHC sessions judges continue strike

Lahore High Court session judges have decided to continue their strike for an indefinite time to protest the court's decision to send a session judge on leave.

Session judges of the Lahore High Court have decided to boycott the proceedings of the court. The decision was made following the court's order to send Justice Zawar Hussain on leave. The session judges demand that Justice Zawar should be retored to his duties.

Meanwhile, lawyers have announced to take out protest demonstrations and defy section 144 today (Saturday) despite the clashes and arrests that marred plans for a rally on Friday. Reports indicate that the lawyers were released on bail last night.

Gangly Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Judges are not angels. They are also sinful like others. They are public servants and citizens have right to complain against their misconduct and incompetence. Citizens can also demand transfer of public servants. Regrettably enough CJ Sharif has posted all his favorite judges in Lahore who feel not answerable to anyone. The CJ was adamant to consider demand of lawyers for transfer his favorite judge.The lawyers went to meet CJ to press their demand. But they were refused interview of the CJ. Rather police started batten charging to them. The situation was worsened and aggravated. CJ Lahore is therefore responsible for causing this ugly situation. Lawyers are victim of negligence of the CJ and police. Neither CJ is good administrator nor judge. He behaves like politicians. He does not consider taking any action on complaints against judges relating to their misconduct. Judiciary should be purged from corrupt and incompetent judges including Lahor CJ. Arresting of lawyers and booking them under terrorist act is condemnable. The lawyers are not terrorist. They are gentlemen and front line soldiers for protection of human rights. They rendered sacrifices for restoration of judges and enhancing dignity of the judiciary. It is result of their sacrifices that Sharif is holding very honorable seat of the judiciary. Public should support these innocent lawyers and demand transperancy in judiciary performance. Even increase i their salaries have not reduce their lust for money.

hassan tariq | 14 years ago | Reply Lawyers are symbol of law and they must not condem to violate the law and create a lawlessness situation . if they have any reservations they must deal it in according the laws. Police took correct desion and action as lawyers tried to violate 144 which was imposed by legal authorities .black coats were beaten by black shirts such kind of words which were used in reports were not write it may cause a conflicts between them may be as named "black coats versus black shirts"

Police did its duty keeping the law and order situation under control. Every one still failed to understand, punjab government still keep silent on the developing situation, no minister of law,no chief minister come to the battle ground with the order of cease fire. The fact is that, lawyers have no authority to interfere in the matters relating to judges perhaps they want to expose preference over the judicial system in Pakistan.

Amanat ali | 14 years ago | Reply No need any suo moto action. Police did as per laws. These lawyer has become "Gundas" and "Badmash" after the judiciary movement. The police should deal them with iron hand the CJ did not try to get sympathies of these peoples and act according to law. They should face the criminal case. This is all done by the babar awan and the money he gave to bar councils.
