Supporting the Pakistani film industry

Letter July 11, 2013
When Pakistani audiences do not support Pakistani films, why are we surprised when our actors go to Bollywood.

SAN FRANCISCO: This is apropos the story “From billboards to the big screen Humaima has done it on her own” (July 11). When Pakistani audiences do not support Pakistani films, why are we surprised when our actors, like Humaima Malik, are going to Bollywood to make their dreams come true?

Josh, the Pakistani film being released at Eid, was made in Pakistan without any outside assistance. The producer of the film has worn different hats to promote her film. She has travelled to different countries and got the film screened to let overseas Pakistanis view the new direction that our film industry is taking. The film has been screened before packed houses and has received rave reviews but since Pakistan lacks proper PR overseas with the government and our embassies being of absolutely no help in this regard, other Pakistani films may struggle to make their mark internationally.
