Nurses are an important and integral part of the healthcare system. They work round-the-clock to take care of the patients and should be given due respect, and a comfortable working environment to work in.
This was said by speakers at a two-day workshop on “Cardiac nursing care: ECG interpretation with the aim of refreshing and introducing new advancements in the practice of cardiac nursing care,” organised by Pakistani Nurses Foundation (PNF) in collaboration with Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital.
According to the Planning and Development Division, there are currently 76,244 registered nurses in the country.
The speakers called the number insufficient and said that due to the shortage, the existing nurses have to bear double the normal workload, which is extremely challenging for them.
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) President Zafar Bakhtawari said nurses are the backbone of the health care sector and they should be technically skilled and aware of advances in health services for the improvement of health outcomes and reduction of risks.
He further said that educational activities should continue in all nursing institutes of Pakistan to develop skilled nurses with upgraded knowledge and understanding.
“Nurses can impart their role in different health care settings by promoting health, preventing diseases and rehabilitating cardiac episodes through extensive patient care and counseling to combat the diseases,” he said.
Bakhtawari said ICCI will support the Pakistani Nurses Foundation (PNF) initiative to conduct an international conference for nurses from South Asian countries, which will help make them more knowledgeable.
