KARACHI:

Nearly 97 sites in the city have been identified as highly congested so 11,000 city wardens have been deployed to manage traffic flows during Ramazan, said city warden director Minhajul Haq in a meeting with the commissioner on Monday.

Haq requested the commissioner to issue arms licences to the city wardens in view of the armed attacks on them. He added that until the licences were issued, an armed police official must accompany each of the city wardens at the 97 high-risk sites.

Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui suggested that close coordination between the city administration and traffic police would help address the issues and provide much needed relief to the commuters.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the city administration, traffic police and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation.
