A lecturer at Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) has resigned over the administration’s refusal to end co-education.
“Due to co-education, the university has become a hub of immoral activities. The standards of the university are falling. I have repeatedly brought this to the attention of the administration,” Mushtaq Ahmad’s resignation letter reads.
Ahmad had been a lecturer at the BZU Institute of Management Science. He had also served as controller examinations.
Acting registrar Nazeer Chishti told The Express Tribune that Ahmad’s resignation had been received and sent to the vice chancellor.
Officials told The Express Tribune that Ahmad had been initially appointed as a member of the university’s visiting faculty.
Later he was given a permanent position. Officials said that according to Higher Education Commission (HEC) rules, Ahmad was ineligible for a permanent faculty position as he had a “poor” academic record.
The official said that Ahmad had forged his academic record.
Vice Chancellor Syed Khawaja Alqama had ordered an inquiry into illegal appointments in the university. The official said that during this inquiry, Ahmad’s tampering with his academic record was discovered.
Findings of the inquiry will be made public soon, the official said.
The official said rather than accepting Ahmad’s resignation, the university would soon announce his sacking. Ahmad is also likely to be prosecuted, the official said.

I think there wouldn't be any harm if we have seperate gender universities.Our universities still are not of world-class standards, I reckon if we may have single gendered ones, our youngsters would be able to concentrate more on studies. I support the perspective of immoral and unethical environment that mixed gender education system and activities promote.
I fail to understand why people here are comparing Universities of Pakistan with the western universities in this aspect only? Why not when it comes to facilities and education standards? Universities are meant solely for education, they are and should be treated as sacred institutions. We have different modest and cultural values than west and we should Everyone knows what happens in government universities such as University of Karachi, University of Punjab etc. so why being ignorant about such things?
We are muslims, living in a muslim country. Our religion does not permit open interaction of both genders. We call ourselves muslims yet do not follow / comply to the principles of Islam. Majority of us adopt the instructions and principles what we feel is supportive and helpful to us while ignoring others which is or are obstacles to our personal interests and desires. Clearly, we are hypocrites. It is our not only our misfortune but also our wrong initiatives and lack of proper strategies that no University of Pakistan is in top ranking list of the world. This is a serious trauma and it is ridiculous that people here are advocating the idea of co-education.
Give me just one examples of goals and outputs single gender universities will not be able to accomplish in contrast to co-education universities. I challenge they would flourish and produce decent, well-mannered, well- learnt, thoroughly educated and disciplined graduates.
ya due to co education the education standard may not be mentained.....
What he failed to say is that Muslims are an immoral people so women should be kept away from men, for their own safety. What he has observed has not been observed by others around the world so we must infer he has Divine eyes.
@darbullah: I believe it is the other way round.
@bigsaf:
But I know from where he belong.
@ashar: Ex Madrassah are you? D'ont make personal attacks on others unless you are willing to take some. What has Asma Jahangir got to do with this lecturer who has a FORGED degree??
He is supposed to be a lecturer the educated gentry of the society so i guess jahaalat has nothing to do with whether you are educated or not
You can utilize yourself by imparting modern education in some madersa...please make your resignation count
If you want to see the horrors of co-education please come to West. The university newspapers have adds for abortion clinics with 'special discounts for students'.
The islamist's are scared of lot of things which shows their weakness.
@Mj:
Then they are dumb!! Why not question women colleges in the USA and UK whh show above average performance among women?

@muhammad hasan: 2.99 vs 3.0 CGPA.
Lets not nit pick here. I think it is within the power of a VC to relax rules to a hundredth of a decimal point of CGPA. Also, its his prerogative to resign, if he is not happy with his position or the university. I wonder why he joined in the first place if he held these views on co-education.
ALAS! unfortunately we live in society where we can dream for a gender balance society....... Immoral activities may lies in one's mind & thoughts ... I feel pity on a large % of women Studying in BZU .......
The actual situation is different. I know Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad in personal capacity as he was my student initially and afterwards a colleague. He was appointed as a lecturer by relaxing the rules by the ex-VC and directotr. The eligibility criterion has been a CGPA of 3.00 for a lecturer but he secured only 2.99 CGPA. Being closer to the ex-director Mr. Ahmad was appointed initially on a temporary seat by relaxing the rules and same was confirmed afterwards by the VC.
YES, Pakistan must end all immoral temptations by; Having PIA fly separate planes for men and women on each scheduled flight! Having separate airports, train and bus stations for men and women! Having separate hospitals and ambulances for men and women! Having separate roads for men and women to travel on! Having separate markets and businesses for men and women to shop at! Having separate cities and provinces for men and women to work and live in! Having a space program where such lecturers are "launched" somewhere else!!!
@Hypocrite hater: And the local madrasahs are producing world class idiots like you.
@ashar:
Harvard and Stanford are universities in the US. Mj, didn't refer to your India and Ahmedi obsession.
This is more telling about your education and prejudices than anything else.
@S: Madrassah is good option for you. they are segregated.
These peple have become religious idiots
Co education is indeed a big issue. There most certainly needs to be stricter rules and separation in classes
That's the reason Harvard, Oxford, Stanford and MIT standards have fallen
Oh yes, end co-education education institutes and help frustrate the already frustrated youth so that they spend (even) more time wondering about opposite sex then on anything constructive. The standards are more likely falling because of teachers like you, not because of the two sexes studying together. Just for reference, some of the better universities in Pakistan all have a co-education system (and their standards are not falling). What twisted logic!
More importantly, we already have a pretty fragile education structure, just how can we split the already weak facilities/resources to accommodate the gender divide (we do not need to go there anyway).
What a mess. Named after Bahauddin Zakariya and co-education. What a mess. At least they should change the name and name it after Aasma Jahangir to make is free for all activities.
@Mj: We are talking about Pakistan not India, Muslims not ahmedis.
@Mj: Harvard and such universities are producing world class war criminals like Obamma, Bush and Blair, if they had lecturer like this gentleman they may had learnt some fear of God.
Lecturer must hidding something behind eo-education issue. He might be abnormal. As he knew it when he tried to join or get job in university that there is coerducation system. This will support those who want to stop coeducation in country. What is why he propagate his resignation to get support from those kind of negative people.
Good riddance. Such bigots have no place in civilized, academic places. He should descend to his cave!
And it is due to these stupid reasons why most males and females lack confidence to speak up in the work place in Pakistan
Yeah. Due to coeducation, standards have fallen so low, they are not even accepting my forged certificate. So I am off to a Madrasa where no body cares
Nathan
Is this lecturer now going to teach at one of the madrassas known worldwide for their high academic standards.
"“Due to co-education, the university has become a hub of immoral activities. The standards of the university are falling. I have repeatedly brought this to the attention of the administration,” Mushtaq Ahmad’s resignation letter reads."
Someone tell that to Harvard and Stanford that their education is of little worth as they don't segregate by gender.
