LAHORE:
Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has decided that no increase in railway fares or ticket charges would be made despite an increase of petroleum prices lately. The federal minister said the decision has been taken to protect the poor and destitute section of society that chooses travels via trains instead of using airplanes. The federal minister said this extra burden would be re-compensated through different sectors of Railways, though he did not give specific details. The minister also fired project director Muhammad Yousaf, who was responsible for the repair of 150 locomotives, from this post and replaced him with Captain Abdul Majeed. Khawaja claimed that he was not satisfied with Yousaf’s performance, choosing instead to replace him with Majeed. The change comes at the heels of major reshuffling in the ministry since Rafique’s assumption of power.
