Breakthrough?: Police to set up DNA labs

A series of capacity building training programmes are being carried out to help with counter-terrorism techniques.

KARACHI: A DNA tests laboratory is being set-up for Sindh police department in the city. A two-member delegation of Australian Federal Police Senior Liaison Officer Marzio Da Re Apm and First Secretary Australia met IGP Shahid Baloch at Central Police Office (CPO). DIG Headquarters Dr Sanaullah Abassi, DIG Training Azhar Rashid Khan and AIG forensic division, Ashfaq Alam Khan, attended the meeting. The delegation discussed important matters, assuring all help in advanced counter-terrorism training and providing modern equipments. They discussed the procedures for setting up a state-of-the-art DNA laboratory. Speaking on the occasion, DIG training said that a series of training programmes were carried out aiming at capacity building of the police personnel especially, with reference to equipping them with counter-terrorism techniques. “At present CID and Bomb Disposal Squad Personnel are being imparted with advanced counter-terrorism training at CPO Karachi, in collaboration with the US Department of Justice.” He added that this five-day training will end today.
