BANNU: Security forces defused a bomb planted by a roadside in Baka Khel area on the outskirts of Bannu.

A security official said they were patrolling in Narmi Khel, Baka Khel late on Tuesday when one of the officials spotted the bomb. The officials blocked the road for all kinds of traffic and defused the device.

Officials said four kilogrammes of explosives had been planted by unidentified militants to target the forces convoy. Nearby houses were searched, but no one was arrested.

Meanwhile, three houses were damaged in an explosion in Khyber Colony, Bannu Cantonment on Wednesday.

Cantonment police official Asad Ali Shah said that at midnight there was a loud explosion in the vicinity of Supply Quarters. Police along with security forces officials rushed to the site and reported that unidentified militants had breached the security zone and planted a bomb near the boundary wall of Farzand Khan’s house. The explosion destroyed the house and partially damaged two other houses nearby. “It was a powerful bomb,” said BDS official Wasal Khan, adding that five kilogrammes of high-intensity explosives were used in the device.

Police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, but no one was arrested till this report was filed. A case, however, has been filed against unidentified militants.
