SHABQADAR:

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) Charsadda chapter has expelled three leaders for violating the party’s code of conduct during the May 11 elections.

According to JUI-F Charsadda District General Secretary Fakhr-e-Alam Khan, the party’s leadership decided any member found to have violated the party’s rules during the general elections would be expelled. “This decision was taken by the JUI-F’s provincial cabinet against three members who opposed Muhammad Ashfaq Khan, the party’s candidate for PK-22 Shabqadar,” said Alam.

Alam warned similar action would be taken against party members who choose not to stand by party candidates in future elections. He, however, maintained the three leaders could appeal to the provincial cabinet against their expulsion.

JUI-F Naib Ameer Syed Rahim Shah, Provincial Deputy Salar Tariq Zeb and District Information Secretary Syed Haider Ali Shah were the leaders who opposed the party’s candidate.

Haider Ali stood against party candidate Ashfaq for PK-22 with Rahim Shah’s support after the latter was denied a party ticket for the constituency. Haider received about 2,000 votes as an independent. During the campaign, he and his supporters claimed Ashfaq was against the party.

When contacted, Tariq Zeb claimed he played an active role in the elections and would appeal against the decision. The other two expelled leaders could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.

Meanwhile, JUI-F Swabi district chief Maulana Fazal Ali Haqqani on Tuesday convened a meeting and suspended JUI-F Rajar tehsil chief Maulana Haroon for violating party rules under sections 15 and 17 of the party manifesto. Maulana Muthar Shah was nominated the new Rajar tehsil chief.

During the meeting, the party’s current situation was discussed and workers who had previously violated party discipline were suspended.

The meeting stressed it would launch a campaign to win the upcoming by-polls. It was also decided that all options would be discussed to secure the NA-13 Swabi-II seat, including possible alliances with opposition parties.

Attendants at the meeting maintained all workers and office bearers of the district would openly support whichever candidate was chosen to contest for the seat.

Earlier, the party also took action against JUI-F leader Maulana Samiullah and his supporters in Mohmand for the same reason. Samiullah contested the general elections as an independent candidate against his own party’s candidate and former MNA Ghulam Sadiq in NA-36.
