Law and order: ‘Kidnapper’ killed in police encounter

The kidnappers had told Ghafoor to bring the ransom money to Chak 116P.

BAHAWALPUR: A man accused of kidnapping for ransom was killed on Monday while his three accomplices managed to flee with the money.Abdul Ghafoor, resident of Muhammadpur Lama, told police officials that unidentified men had kidnapped his son and had demanded Rs200,000 for his release. The kidnappers had told Ghafoor to bring the ransom money to Chak 116P. Sadiqabad Saddar police had established pickets in the area while Ghafoor paid the ransom. Once the child was handed over, the police cornered the kidnappers who opened fire at the police team. The police retaliated and killed one of them. He later identified as Tauseef Chandia, resident of Darkhwast Jamaal near Dera Ghazi Khan. His accomplices escaped.
