PESHAWAR:

Two police constables were gunned down on Ring Road in the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara police station on Monday afternoon.

Police said members of the special police force, Constable Osman and Constable Subhanullah, were on routine foot patrol near Abbas Truck Terminal when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire, killing them on the spot. The attackers escaped after the incident, taking the AK-47 rifles of the slain policemen with them.

A large number of police personnel were dispatched to the area to launch a search operation. “We are conducting a search operation in the area after two of our constables were killed by terrorists,” confirmed a police official.

He said militants had increased their activities in the adjacent tribal belt as well as Peshawar district in the recent past, frequently attacking law enforcement agencies as well as security forces.

This is the third attack of its kind in the past one month. Earlier, DSP Traffic Amanullah, his gunman Amjad and SHO Hayatabad Mira Jan were killed in a similar fashion. “These are without any doubt targeted attacks in which policemen are being killed,” claimed a police official.
